Gardens have never been as important in our lives as they are today. We have realised the importance of having access to a garden or outdoor space and how they have become a sanctuary, playing a vital role in our health and wellbeing.

A large proportion of homes and gardens have their own unique identity and footprint, and every household has a different vision for how their garden is to be used. We want beauty and practicality to harmoniously come together in a bespoke way. Phil is an incredible designer, thoughtful, considered and inspirational in equal parts. His knowledge of plants, soil types and a flair for design make him very good at designing gardens from scratch. He came and looked at our garden, listened to what we thought and then came up with a series of design ideas which we then evolved with his input. Phil then sourced plants, and eventually came and planted them all himself and took great care in doing so.

About Phil…
I have always been interested in design since school; hence, pursuing art and graphic design at the Cleveland college of Art and Design. My career path changed direction soon thereafter and shifted into the world of sales. I enjoyed a long and successful career culminating to managing a flagship business specialising in corporate, export and diplomatic sales for 10 years in the heart of Mayfair.
Following the arrival of our first child and then the start of the pandemic, my wife and I took a step back and decided to make some changes to better suit our growing family and changing lifestyle. Design always remained my passion, primarily landscape architecture and design. Deep down I never gave up on the idea to one day retrain and realise my dream career. I was thrilled when I did enrol in the garden design diploma at KLC College of Design and a year into my studying I am now enjoying working with clients, sharing in their passion, and bringing their garden design vision to life. I am very focused on providing a consultative approach to the client experience and my 20 years in client facing roles has been invaluable to successfully delivering this.

Phil Cowans Garden Design garden design studio was established in 2021, based in Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire. Phil is studying Garden Design at the prestigious KLC College Of Design in Chelsea Harbour London. The college is one of a handful that have been awarded Society of Garden Designers 'Educator Status' meaning that the course is committed to high standards in garden design education and teaching of best practice.
