Little Gaddesden

This space was an unused area at the end of the client’s garden. The brief was to design a low maintenance wildflower meadow/fire pit area for the family to use during the summer months.

The design has 230m2 dedicated to 3 mixes of wildflower turf, supplied by Wildflower Turf, underplanted with 2500 of their Bees & Butterflies Bulb Mix. Once established next year this will envelop the circular Winton clay paved fire pit seating area and curved lawn. Two Crataegus persimilis ‘Prunifolia’ and a Prunus serulla were added to provide height and further enclosure.

The Cotswold Pebble, Cor-Ten edged pathway and lawn edging complement the two Cor-Ten steel troughs supplied by Lux Unique - once weathered will blend subtlety into the landscape, with the bodies of water providing a reflective surface to highlight the Copper Beech and Birches that run the rear boundary to the fields beyond.

The clients are very happy with the result, and we are all very excited to see the wildflower meadow start to come to life in the spring.
